Let's Connect!
This year Communication Works started a new tradition: we selected a “word of the year” to represent a core value expressed through our work. We chose the word “connect,” something we do in many ways with many different people. It’s actually a big part of our mission to help others communicate and connect, and we encourage all of our employees to focus on their connections. We talk about how it’s important to connect on multiple levels— with ourselves, by taking time for exercise, relaxation, nutrition, and other supports for our health and well-being; with our friends and family, those who know us best; with our colleagues or work family, who support and encourage us; and finally, as SLPs, with the children, adults, and families on our caseload, who provide inspiration on a daily basis. The bracelets worn by all of us at CW remind us of the value of connection and the power and joy it can bring. Many of us who work in the helping professions are also parents who are constantly giving to both our students and to our own families. We often find that taking care of ourselves and making time to connect in ways that sustain us may be at the bottom of our to-do list. Let your bracelet serve as a reminder that when we make the time to connect and nurture ourselves, we’re far more ready and energized to reach out to those who need our help and guidance. For more information on the importance of connection, here is an article from Psychology Today: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/feeling-it/201208/connect-thriveArticle by Elizabeth Sautter, M.A., CCC-SLPSpeech Language Pathologist & Executive Director of Communication Works
